Retention Works Both Ways
"How long are you planning to stay with us?"
Asked by the employer. In a job interview.
A student had been asked this in a recent job interview and shared it with us during my return as a guest lecturer at SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern, where I co-taught alongside Director Christa Augsburger. Two classes. One full day on Recruitment Marketing & Employer Branding.
The questions that stayed with usBeyond theory and practical examples, it was the conversations and lived experiences the students brought into the room that made the day.
→ What slow or absent responses to applications do to candidates
→ How long it really takes to embed culture in an organisation
→ Why "how long are you planning to stay?" left them puzzled
And these are only a few of many.
I think that last one says a lot. Retention works both ways — it depends just as much on what the employer is willing to offer in return.
Culture is the everyday workWhat everyone in the room walked away with: culture is shaped by each of us — every day, in every moment.
Which is why Employer Branding is culture work and culture is what people stay for.
