Hospitality in transition
Are we still managing, or are we already inspiring?
Together with Director Christa Augsburger , I had the pleasure of bridging the gap between theory and practice today through a co-teaching session at the SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern. Our focus in the sixth semester was on employer branding and recruitment marketing. It was wonderful to see how much this topic truly matters to the students. Their engagement throughout the morning showed that shaping our work culture is something that affects us all.
A key insight emergedSuccess belongs to those who do not just use values as empty slogans but make them tangible. For these students, the following aspects are essential:
→ Appreciation & Respect: Working together at eye level as the foundation of collaboration.
→ Involvement: The desire to be part of the process and to actively participate.
→ Authentic EVP (Employer Value Proposition): Moving away from empty slogans on websites and towards a genuine anchoring in daily life.
Key TakeawayThis lived promise applies to everyone. Staff and leadership teams alike.
My food for thought for practical application
Genuine involvement often begins with meeting culture. Perhaps it is time to consciously rotate responsibility within the team. Why not give every team member the chance to lead a meeting? This is the step from rigid management towards inspiring leadership...
The next generation is ready for this cultural shift. Is our industry ready too?
